Family Fun

Day 1 – Coastal Recreation Trail Surrey Ride

The pedal-driven carriage surreys are a common sight along the coast. Take your surrey from Adventures By The Sea to the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail and enjoy a leisurely ride along the coast. Visit sites along the way including Lovers Point Beach, the American Tin Cannery, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the Museum of Monterey.

Day 2 – Monterey Bay Aquarium
The world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium is home to a wide variety of local ocean life and fun for any age. Whether you take a guided tour or walk it at your own pace, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must see! For adventurous children ages 8-13, the Aquarium also offers dives in their Great Tide Pool between June 17th and September 2nd. After a dive briefing and basic scuba introduction, the kids will encounter marine animals and see some of the wonders of the bay. A dive log with a commemorative photo is also included in the package. This is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 3 – Beach Day
Spend a day in the sun at Lovers Point or Asilomar Beaches. With plenty of adventure nearby, these beaches are not only for sunbathers. Get in the water to surf, boogie, or paddle board or stay on the sand for some beach volleyball. No matter your interests, these beaches are a great place to enjoy the day. And while you are here, Asilomar State Beach is a great place to get an up close view of local wildlife. Follow the paths to the tide pools and be careful not to disturb the natural environment. Because Asilomar State Beach is part of the Asilomar Marine Preserve, fishing and collecting is prohibited, but feel free to take plenty of pictures!

Day 4 – Butterfly Sanctuary
There is a reason Pacific Grove is known as “Butterfly Town U.S.A.” and we invite you to see it for yourself. From November through February, Monarch butterflies can be found in the eucalyptus trees at the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary off of Lighthouse Avenue. If you are here in October, you can also attend the annual Butterfly Parade where teachers and students dress in costumes and parade through town celebrating the return of the Monarchs.

Day 5 – Museum of Natural History
The Pacific Grove Museum is your living personal field guide to the California Central Coast and a favorite among school aged children. Explore the birds and wildlife, plants, geology and cultural richness that make this region unique in the world. Also, find out about the miraculous and unique annual cycle of western monarch butterflies, which includes a winter migration to California’s Central Coast.

Family Events
If you’re lucky enough to be in town during one of our events, don’t miss it! There is a Farmer’s Market every Monday night and several events throughout the year including the Fourth of July BBQ, the Feast of Lanterns celebration, Stillwell’s Fun in the Park, the Holiday Parade of Lights and the well known Good Old Days celebration. All of our events are family friendly and offer activities for children and adults alike.
